When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex christened their son in a small private ceremony, their royal highnesses kept the details to a painstaking minimum. But today, two months later, we finally know who baby Archie’s godmother is!
With friends that go from tennis star Serena Williams to music legend Elton John, a celebrity godmother for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son seemed to be on the cards. However, according to a royal expert, the couple went for a less high-profile person for the role.
In her coverage of the actress-turned-royal’s Smart Set Capsule Collection Launch, Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl let the name of baby Archie’s godmother slip.
“I was there at the launch and spotted in the audience Isabel May, who is, in fact, Archie’s Godmother,” Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight, adding: “although that’s been kept very, very quiet.”
According to reports, Isabel, a PR mogul, is the former director of communication for Burberry and currently works for David Beckham as chief marketing officer for DB Ventures.
She was introduced to Meghan by mutual friend and Soho House director, Markus Anderson and the pair has been friends ever since. As pointed out by multiple outlets, May played a big part in helping Markle adjust to her life in the U.K.
Isabel May was, in fact, even seated in the second row, ahead of Serena Williams, Oprah Winfrey, and George and Amal Clooney—when she attended Harry and Meghan’s wedding, signifying her closeness to the Duchess.
Does this mean Baby Archie’s godmother will bibbidi-bobbidi-boo him with Burberry and Victoria Beckham clothing?
