Last Thursday night (5), “Cobra Kai” fans got a big surprise. Netflix announced the premiere date for season 5 in a teaser showing how the next episodes unfold. Prior to its public release, footage from the series was shown at the Cobra Kai: Live & Bad Ass event, which was part of Netflix’s Is a Joke: The Festival in Los Angeles.

The new season arrives on September 9 on streaming. The teaser reveals the outcome of the All Valley Tournament, with Cobra Kai winning the competition and Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith, 60) trying to dominate the region with his dubious karate style. “Today is a turning point at Cobra Kai, our competition the store, and the only thing better than a complete dojo is a valley full of complete dojos,” tells Griffith.

The teaser also shows Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio, 60) and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto, 63) teaming up to take down Terry once and for all and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka,56) traveling to Mexico with his son, Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan, 23), to find Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña, 20), who is looking for his biological father.

“Cobra Kai” is based on the original “Karate Kid” trilogy from the 80s, by Robert Mark Kamen. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg created the series and produced by Counterbalance Entertainment. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, all seasons are available on Netflix.
