This Friday (27), Stranger Things returned to Netflix, bigger and scarier than ever. The first volume of the fourth season has seven episodes and explores a little more of Hawkins’ history and the supernatural events that dominate the life of the small American town. The plot sequence picks up six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which left a trail of terror and destruction. And it may also have revealed how the Upside Down was created.

The group of friends Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Will (Noah Schnapp), Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) break up for the first time, going to different cities and schools. The Duffer brothers, creators of the series, are horror movie lovers and were inspired by dark success stories to create the new villain, Vecna, a demon who feeds on fears and bad memories of the people he kills.

The announcement that Amybeth McNulty, the protagonist of Anne with an E, would join the cast of Stranger Things was one of the reasons for the fourth season to be brought forward. McNulty is Vickie, a bandmate and, more importantly, Robin’s (Maya Hawke) crush this season. They have a cute moment in the premiere episode.

Volume 2 of “Stranger Things” premieres July 1.
