Ryan Gosling will play the iconic Ken doll in the live-action “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie. In an interview with “The Tonight Show”, the actor revealed that despite having loved the script written by Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach, and classified as “the best script I’ve ever read,” he only accepted the role after an unusual ” sign” of the universe.
“I walk out in the backyard [after getting the offer] and, do you know where I found Ken, Jimmy?” Gosling said. “[A Ken doll] face down in the mud next to a squashed lemon.Gosling then took a picture of the scene and sent it to Gerwig via message: ‘I shall be your Ken, for this story must be told”, told the star to Jimmy Fallon.
Gosling has two daughters, Esmeralda Amada, 7, and Amada Leee, 6, from his marriage to actress Eva Mendes. Fallon, who is also the father of two girls and the actor even joked that Ken is underappreciated the Barbie universe.“They never played with Ken,” said Gosling. “It was available,” joked Fallon. “He’s an accessory and not even one of the cool ones,” added Gosling. And then they talked about the difficulty of assembling Barbie’s Dreamhouse.
“Barbie” opens in theaters July 21, 2023.
