“Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The discussion focused on the crisis situation resulting from the serious escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict,” a statement said. Russian state media reported that the main focus of Putin’s calls to Middle Eastern leaders was to offer humanitarian aid and coordinate a deal to end the conflict as quickly as possible.

In addition to the leaders of Israel and Palestine, Putin spoke with the heads of state of Egypt, Syria and Iran. With the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, a crucial topic was discussed. According to the Kremlin, Putin and his Egyptian counterpart addressed the evacuation of Russians and citizens of other nations who are in the Gaza Strip, the target of intense bombing since the beginning of the war, through the Rafah crossing.
