A defendant in the Georgia election interference case linked to former President Trump has filed a motion alleging that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) and one of the lead prosecutors in the case, Nathan Wade, are in a romantic relationship “improper”.

Mike Roman, a political strategist with seven criminal charges, claimed this without providing concrete evidence. Roman’s attorney, Ashleigh Merchant, cited close sources indicating an “ongoing, personal and romantic relationship” between Willis and Wade.

The motion argues that Willis and Wade traveled together to destinations such as the Caribbean and Napa Valley, as well as being seen privately in the Atlanta area. However, there is no documentation of these alleged trips, and the claims have not been confirmed.

Wade, who was in private practice, was hired to help prosecute the case, resulting in charges being filed against Trump and others last August. Roman’s defense argues this creates an irreparable conflict of interest, seeking dismissal of the charges and preventing Willis, Wade and the Fulton County prosecutor’s office from continuing to prosecute the case. The motion also suggests that Wade benefited financially from this relationship, calling into question his impartiality in the process.
