Last Wednesday, former Republican Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey was inadvertently caught on a microphone expressing his opinions about former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley during the presidential race. Shortly before withdrawing her candidacy, Christie stated that Haley would be “smoked” in the presidential election.

The former governor, who was winding down his campaign before the Iowa caucuses, also revealed that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida had called him, according to reports picked up by Hot Mic, revealed by The Recount.

According to RealClearPolling’s polling average from December 10 to January 9, Christie held 3.5% support for the Republican nomination. During the conversation, Christie commented on campaign spending, highlighting that Nikki Haley had spent US$16 million so far, while DeSantis had spent US$59 million and Christie, in turn, only US$12 million. He argued that the return on investment indicated that Haley was not prepared for the presidential race.

Additionally, Christie shared details of a conversation with Ron DeSantis, stating that the Florida governor was “petrified” and suggesting that DeSantis would likely end his presidential campaign after the Iowa caucuses. It is worth noting that Christie faced public criticism for his differing opinions regarding former President Donald Trump and for questioning the politicization of the Justice Department under the Biden administration. The former governor began his presidential campaign on June 6, initially criticizing Trump for his criticism of former members of his administration.
