Had Parasite not won, there would’ve been a new addition to the list of most undeserving Best Picture winners!
Justice was made at the 92nd Academy Awards when Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite became the first non-English language film to win Best Picture after sweeping up honors in the best director, international film, and original screenplay categories.
The consensus among both experts and audiences is that Parasite was, without a doubt, the best movie of the year. So much so that if any other film had won the top prize of the night, it would’ve automatically joined the ranks of the most undeserving Best Picture winners, even if the accolade had gone to masterpieces like 1917, Jojo Rabbit, Joker, or The Irishman.
As we applaud the Academy’s overdue willingness to change, we look back at the worst, most undeserving Best Pictures winners in Oscars history that motivated this much-needed revolution.
