Fenerbahçe were ahead, leading 3-1, when the incident occurred. Goalkeeper Göknur was preparing to make a throw with her hands in the 94th minute, with less than two minutes left in the match. However, Besiktas’ Halilaj surprisingly appears from behind and heads the ball, which was in the goalkeeper’s hands. The home team’s players immediately stop the game to protest, but player number 20 persists and manages to score the goal.

To make the situation worse, the referee surprisingly indicates the center of the field, validating the goal. The controversial decision did not have much impact, as Fenerbahçe ended up winning the derby 3-2. The goal should, without a doubt, have been disallowed, as it is not permitted to compete for the ball when it is under absolute control in the hands of the goalkeeper.

The blatant error had global repercussions on social media, generating outrage and discussions about the arbitration decision.
