This Wednesday (29), Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will undergo thumb surgery, according to team owner Jim Irsay. He told ESPN that Taylor went for evaluation for the injury, and surgery was the determination. They are hoping for his return in two or three weeks.

Taylor suffered the thumb injury during the first half of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday (26). He still remained in the game, finishing with 15 carries for 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The running back had already missed the Colts’ first four games of the year due to an ankle injury, but has played in the last seven contests. He has scored four touchdowns in the last three games and averaged six yards per carry, scoring twice against the Bucs in Week 12.

Taylor’s absence is a big loss for the Colts, who are without quarterback Anthony Richardson for the rest of the season as he suffered a right shoulder injury. Zack Moss will replace Taylor, as he did in the first four games of the year. This season, Moss has 672 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, leading the Colts’ running corps.
