“I am very excited to be taking on the role of sporting director at Astana Qazaqstan for the upcoming 2024 season. After working on the Tour de France alongside the Astana Qazaqstan team and riders, I knew I had more to offer professional cycling” , said Mark Renshaw in the released statement.

The former athlete continued: “With the support of my incredible family to return to elite sport, I believe I can help lead our talented drivers to victories in some of the biggest and best races on the calendar. I can thank Alexandre Vinokourov for giving me this opportunity to pass on my experience to the team. We have big goals ahead of us in 2024 and I can’t wait to work towards achieving those goals with the team.”

Mark Cavendish’s return to professional sport was shared at the beginning of the year, in which the athlete reportedly came out of retirement to compete for another year on the WorldTour. As a big bet, the Astana Qazaqstan team is developing plans and structures to lead them to victory.

Alexandre Vinokourov, team leader, stated that hiring Mark Renshaw was a great decision as the athlete has enough experience to develop the Briton and other competitors who make up Astana Qazaqstan. “I believe that having a young sporting director with a different modern vision of cycling would be ideal to help us continue to improve,” he said.
