The Brazilian team doctor and responsible for Neymar’s knee surgery, Rodrigo Lasmar, stated that the player will be absent for the Copa América in 2024.

Therefore, when asked about the recovery of the Seleção striker and the possibility of him playing in the competition, he explained that he will not skip steps.

“It’s too early, there’s no point skipping steps to recover sooner and taking unnecessary risks. Our expectation is that he will be ready to return at the start of the 2024 season in Europe, which is August”

“We need to be patient. Talking about a return before nine months is premature, this is a global concept for ligament recovery”.

It is worth remembering that Neymar was injured two months ago, in a duel for the Qualifiers against Uruguay, and is still undergoing treatment. 

The player has been undergoing treatment in Brazil since he was injured on October 17th. He underwent surgery on November 2, in Belo Horizonte. Neymar tore the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee.
