Ertz has been out of football since being released by the Cardinals in November 2023. Now, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, he is on his way to sign with the Lions, and could play in the NFC Championship Game against the 49ers.

The tight end initially will sign with the practice squad, but if he is ready to play the Lions could elevate him to the active roster against the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday (28).

Ih the Lions win, Ertz would be on his way to his second Super Bowl. He was released by the Cards on November 30, after catching just 27 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown in seven games. He also spent five weeks on injured reserve due to a quad injury before being released. His last game was on October 22, when Cards lost to the Seahawks.

Ertz is a three-time Pro Bowler, and was also on the Eagles’ Super Bowl LII-winning team. He has a chance in the Lions, as their backup tight end Brock Wright suffered an injury during Monday’s (22) game against the Buccaneers.
