The midfielder came on in the 57th minute of the 5-0 City’s win over Huddersfield Town. He was involved in the fourth goal, and provided the assist for the fifth finding Jeremy Doku (also returning from injury) unmarked inside the area and cutting the ball back for him to score.

De Bruyne was sidelined after tearing his hamstring in the opening Premier League game of the season, in August 2023. He had already been struggling with the injury during the UEFA Champions League final in May, and underwent surgery to rectify the issue.

“Kevin must know how much the people love him. He’s incredible. Kevin, until he decides to leave or retires, will forever be one of the most beloved players. We are really pleased for him”, said City’s boss Pep Guardiola after the match.

However, Guardiola remains cautious and said that De Bruyne will need many more training sessions before he can play 90 minutes again. “I said before that he needs to accumulate training sessions more than games. At Newcastle we have another chance and then two weeks to have some good training in Abu Dhabi”, added Guardiola.
