Being a young and gifted athlete is something many of us dream of. However, it seems to be something some people are just born with or not. Natural talent cannot be overstated when it comes to sports and over the generations there have been many amazing stars in all fields that have this gift.
Some athletes seem destined to achieve greatness from a young age and that’s what we’ll be focusing on today. In this article, we’ll be looking at some of the rising stars across many different sports set to take the world by storm in the next decade or so. Placing football bets in Canada and on other sports elsewhere will surely involve some of the key players we are about to cover.
Holger Rune – Tennis
Imagine taking down someone as big as Novak Djokovic before you turned 20. That’s exactly what Holger Rune did. Hailing from Denmark and just 19 years old, he is certainly a tennis pro of the future. He beat Djokovic in the Paris Masters, giving him his biggest tournament win so far. He also managed to beat Carlos Alcaraz, another rising teenage tennis star on his way to the top.
Richard Mansell – Golf
2022 was a fantastic season for Richard Mansell. He has been on various watchlists for his ability for some years, but he absolutely smashed it last year. He managed to secure four top-10 finishes in his competitions. With just five missed cuts in 25 starts, he also secured a place in the DP World Tour Championships in Dubai – a prestigious event that marks the end of the season.
Morgan Gannon – Rugby League
Another teenage sensation, Morgan Gannon, made his debut for the Leeds Rhinos in 2021, and his progress has been meteoric. Coach Rohan Smith is working closely with the youngster who originally started as a back-row player. However, it seems that his coach feels stand-off is his forte and hopes to use him to create a huge impact in the 2023 Super League.
Caroline Dubois – Boxing
The Tokyo Olympics was pivotal for Catherine Dubois as she turned professional. Her brother, Daniel Dubois is also a talented heavyweight boxer, so it’s clear that talent runs in the family. She has already had some very impressive wins and has her sights set on Katie Taylor, the Irish superstar. At just 21, we can confidently say that Caroline Dubois is a boxing legend in the making to keep an eye on.
Maya Le Tissier – Football
Since the England’s women’s team won the UEFA women’s championship in 2022, there has been a lot more interest in women’s football, both in the UK and further afield. Maya Le Tissier is set to be part of the Lionesses’ squad in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand for the FIFA Women’s World Cup set to take place in July.
She started her career playing for Brighton and at just 20 years old, moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2022. In November, she made her first outing with the England team in Murcia, playing against Norway, where the team came away with a respectable 1-1 draw.
Funmi Fadoju – Netball
When the England netball stars make a bid for the 2023 World Cup, Funmi Fadoju will be in the line-up. People started to notice her when she was named as part of the team, albeit a reserve for the Commonwealth Games last summer. She proved her worth and made a full-team debut against Australia and Uganda.
Rehan Ahmed – Cricket
Another rising star is Rehan Ahmed, who at just 18 years of age is already making a name for himself in the world of test cricket. In a recent tour of Pakistan, he became the youngest-ever England test cricketer and has undoubtedly caught the attention of other high-ranking players. Hailing from Lancashire, Ahmed is a talented leg spinner. He already has a championship century to his name and is touted to continue to make a big noise in the cricket world.
Henry Arundell – Rugby Union
Although he is recovering from a foot injury, Harry Arundel looks set to have a big future in rugby union. Currently he plays for London Irish and in 2022 made his debut international appearance. In July, he scored a fantastic solo try against Australia in the first test. It’s likely that he will be in demand from other teams, including Twickenham.
Joe O’Connor – Snooker
This young snooker player has caught the eye of legend Ronnie O’Sullivan, who praised his performance and feels that he is an excellent under-30-year-old player to watch. He comes from Leicester and, at 27 years old, is making a lot of noise in the snooker world. It hasn’t all been plain sailing, and in December at the Scottish Open, Gary Wilson defeated him 9-2, but his skill and technique cannot be ignored.
