BAFTA: actress who plays Whitney Houston in film wins nomination

Naomi Ackie is the newest star who plays Whitney Houston in the movie “Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and who has been drawing attention to the upcoming awards. For her performance in the cinematographic work, the actress was nominated by the British Academy of the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) for the category of “Best Supporting Actress”.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress tells how her experience of playing the biggest star of recent times was: “Until now, I have supported incredible actors, with great comfort and joy, but this was the first time I took on a project, which is definitely a different level of pressure. It’s such a big leap.”

“It was a beautiful working experience. Honestly, I had a lot of fun. It feels like the right projects are now finding me. There are fewer auditions. I have enough work now, and this feels different. Recording self-tapes non-stop and waiting for calls thankfully seems to be a thing of the past”, tells Naomi Ackie about the turning point in her career after playing Whitney Houston.

The actress also reported on preparing for the role: “I had to learn the accent, the movements and the way of singing to put everything together and create my portrait of Whitney. I had help from many people, friends and relatives of her, like her brother, Gary and sister-in-law Pat, and Clive Davis himself. But the hardest thing was the accent. I was quite unsure of how I was speaking.”

Naomi Ackie started out in film with the role of “Lady Macbeth”, then won roles in the films “Yardie” and “Stars Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. As for series, she performed the lead role in the second season of “The End of the F***ing World”.
