“I don’t know what the difference will be,” the Aftersun and Normal People star told The Times. “Maybe this is naive? Will just more people stop me on the street? I would be deeply depressed if that were the case and I hope it’s not true,” he continued.

The actor also said what he will do if this happens: “I will have an answer next year, but if [the film] impacts my life in this way, I will be in a difficult situation. I would have to go ahead and do an obtuse piece that no one wants to see.”

The cast of Gladiator 2 includes Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal, among other stars. The return of Connie Nielsen, who played Lucilla in the original film, is also confirmed.

Scheduled for release on November 22, the sequel has a script by Peter Craig (Top Gun: Maverick) and features Ridley Scott back in the director’s chair.

The plot should take place 25 years after the events of the first film, focusing on Lucius (Mescal), son of Lucilla (Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).
