The number made the film break the grossing record for a live-action adaptation of a work by William Shakespeare.

Thus, inspired by “Much Ado About Nothing”, the film follows Bea and Ben, two old college friends forced to live together when they receive an invitation to a mutual friend’s wedding.

Although Shakespeare’s play focuses on Claudius and Hero, a young couple who fall in love and plan to marry, “Anyone But You” is based on a subplot involving Beatrice and Benedick, who swear not to marry. Throughout the play, they fall in love.

It’s worth remembering that among all Shakespeare adaptations, the record still goes to The Lion King (2019), a film made entirely in CGI, with more than US$1.6 billion.

The film is directed by Will Gluck, who also wrote the script alongside Ilana Wolpert.

In addition to Sweeney and Powell, the cast includes Alexandra Shipp, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet and Rachel Griffiths.

The film is still showing in theaters.
