Even before debuting on HBO Max, the series “The Idol” was surrounded by controversy in its backstage and direction, and since then, with each episode released, the characters and themes have been the target of negative criticism. During a chat with Variety magazine, The Weeknd explained that he expected exactly this behavior from the public about the cinematographic work.

“It’s almost educational, that’s what it’s been incredibly famous for. You’re surrounded by people who aren’t sure what your true intentions are, even if they seem good. You never know”, said the interpreter of the character Tedros.

In early March, Rolling Stones magazine released an article in which it reported abusive experiences on set. The news took into account that 13 people, all of whom were part of the recordings, spoke about the backstage of the production, stating that the atmosphere was one of general chaos, with several layoffs and even a breach in the budget. In addition, they reported that with Sam Levinson taking over as the new director, he wrote the entire series putting more explicit content, a lot of nudity with disturbing and violent scenes, leaving the work with the original message weakened.
