The player suffered a hamstring injury in the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday (6) and left the stadium on crutches. The estimation is that he could be out until January, but Tottenham have not set a deadline for his return yet, and have postponed an initial scan.

The team hopes he will not require surgery. Losing Van de Ven is a blow for manager Ange Postecoglou, and the team might have to dip into the transfer market for a new defender in January. The Dutchman was signed in a £43 million deal in the summer, transferred from Wolfsburg.

Van de Ven’s short-term replacement could be Eric Dier. Tottenham will possibly draw up a list of possible targets for the next transfer window, even taking into account Van de Ven’s return from injury on New Year’s Eve.

Another player who left the field in Monday’s defeat was James Maddison, who had an ankle problem even before the match. He was already doubtful to play against Chelsea, and is now uncertain whether he will be risked again against Wolves on Saturday (11).

Cristian Romero is also set to miss the next three games, against Wolves, Aston Villa and Manchester City, through suspension. Meanwhile, Richarlison is expected to undergo surgery on a pelvic injury this week.
