“It’s very important to us that it wasn’t a remake or a reboot, that this a new chapter in wednesday addams life, this is a real show about exploring her journey into adulthood”, explain showrunners and executive producers Miles Millar and Alfred Gough in the video.

Jenna reveals that she took fencing and cello lessons, as well as walking like the character. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ortega had already commented on the challenges of playing the daughter of Gomez and Morticia.

“We’ve never seen her as a teenage girl”, she said. “You know, it’s funny and sweet and almost charming to hear this eight-year-old’s obsession with murder and blood and guts. As she gets older, that nasty attitude or [those] biting remarks, it’s almost kind of hard to not make it sound like every other teenage girl. So, it’s like, how do we establish this character and give her the same fire without letting her become something that she’s not?”

The actress goes on to say she doesn’t want to disappoint. “It’s been a bit of a challenge and I’m curious to see how it plays. I’ve never had the opportunity to play an iconic character before. I know she’s well-loved and well-respected and I just don’t want to mess her up.”

In addition to Jenna Ortega, the cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luiz Guzmán as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems. “Wednesday” premieres later this year.
