A continuation of the series Game of Thrones in the form of a sequel became one of the most expected series in 2022, and after years of speculation and delayed production due to Covid-19 and other reasons, a return to Westeros is finally hitting record numbers of the audience with HBO’s new hit: House of the Dragon.

The new series primarily focuses on House Targaryen members, the throne’s succession, and the fights in between. But the prequel also boasts an expansive cast of characters along with the Targaryen family tree. Here’s a list of characters expected to play vital roles in House of the Dragon.

Placed nearly 200 years before the events of  Game of Thrones, “House of the Dragon,” released on August 21st, stars the distant ancestors of well-known houses and familiarizes viewers with lesser-known clans as they circle the Seven Kingdoms’ seat of power, the Iron Throne.

Rhaenyra Targaryen (young: Milly Alcock, adult: Emma D’Arcy)

Rhaenyra Targaryen is Daenerys’s (Game of Thrones) sixth great-grandmother. The beauty is ​​King Viserys Targaryen’s first-born child, who rides a dragon named Syrax. She has grown up watching her father wish for a son to secure his succession.

Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best)

Queen Rhaenys Targaryen was the youngest sister of King Aegon I Targaryen, the first lord of the Seven Kingdoms. Princess Rhaenys is the cousin of King Viserys Targaryen, who inherited the crown instead. She is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon.

Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith)

King Viserys Targaryen’s younger brother and presumptive heir — or so he believes and fights for it. ​​The younger brother to King Viserys, and peerless warrior and dragonrider, Daemon possesses the true blood of the dragon. The prince has his eye on the Iron Throne, but key figures do not believe he’s fit to rule.

Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans)

The Hand of the King, Otto, loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm with good intent. Ser Otto does not believe Prince Daemon Targaryen is fit to be King Viserys’ heir, and their dislike is mutual. He is the father of Alicent Hightower.

Alicent Hightower (young: Emily Carey, adult: Olivia Cooke)

A close friend of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ser Otto Hightower’s daughter, Alicent is a member of House Hightower who became the second wife to King Viserys I Targaryen. She is described as a very attractive woman and is also said to be close with King Viserys Targaryen. She is the daughter of Ser Otto Hightower.

Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint)

Corlys is the lord of the House of Velaryon. He is very close with the Targaryens. Lord Corlys is married to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, and they have two children: Laena and Laenor Velaryon.
