Alluding to the expansion of NATO, which she classified as a “tool of containment” against Russia, Hillary Clinton addressed the Russian leader, stating: “Vladimir, you were the one who promoted it. People are not forced to join NATO.
It’s a people’s choice.” Former United States Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, made this statement on Tuesday, highlighting the NATO expansion policy she promoted during her term and insinuating that Russian President Vladimir Putin, is responsible for expanding the allied military organization.
During the presentation of her photograph, which will be displayed on the walls of the State Department and in which she is looking at the horizon with the American flag in the background, the former Washington diplomat chief and former Democratic presidential candidate praised the administration of Joe Biden for maintaining the values and priorities she defended under Barack Obama. These include defending Ukraine, confronting “Russian aggression” and managing rivalry with China.
Hillary Clinton vindicated the “smart power” strategy she adopted during her term, seeking to move the United States away from the aggressive policy led by George W. Bush (2001-2009), while maintaining diplomatic and military influence. Present during the event were Bill Clinton, her husband and former US President, current Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the Secretary of State who succeeded her, John Kerry (2013-2017), and dozens of diplomats, all applauding her words.
