President Joe Biden said this Monday (13), that hospitals in the Gaza Strip “must be protected”. The WHO (World Health Organization) stated on Friday (10), that half of the region’s 36 hospitals and 2/3 of the primary health centers are not functioning due to the constant bombings.
Asked if he had expressed concerns about Israel, Biden replied that he has not been inhibited from doing so and stressed: “My hope and expectation is that there will be less intrusive action in relation to hospitals, and we continue to be in contact with the Israelis ”. “I continue to have some hope, but hospitals must be protected,” added Joe Biden, quoted by AFP.
Namely, Al Shifa has become the main target in Israel’s battle to take control of the northern Gaza Strip. Doctors at the scene claim that patients, including newborns, are dying due to a lack of fuel to allow the hospital to operate.
Thus, Ashraf Al-Qidra, spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Health, which is controlled by Hamas, said that more than 30 patients, including three newborns, had died in the last three days due to the siege on the hospital and the lack of power.
Additionally, the Israel Defense Forces said on Tuesday (14) that they are sending incubators from the country’s hospitals to health centers in the Gaza Strip.
“We are doing everything we can to minimize harm to civilians, assist with evacuation and facilitate the transfer of medical supplies and food. Our war is not with the people of Gaza”, declared the Army.
