Andre Braugher, actor known for playing Captain Raymond Holt on the series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, has died of lung cancer.

As a result, the cause of death was revealed by an American advisor to the magazine “Hollywood Reporter” this Thursday (14).

Therefore, according to the website Deadline, he had been diagnosed just a few months ago.

The celebrated actor, winner of two Emmy awards, died on Monday (11). At the time, the American press only mentioned a “recent illness”.

Braugher was born in Chicago, United States, in 1962. He made his film debut in 1989, with the film “Glory”, alongside Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.

As Captain Holt, in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, he gained even more global recognition. He played the chief detective officer of the comedy series between 2013 and 2021. The character, seen as a father figure at the police station, was openly gay.

“I felt like it was an opportunity to do something totally different from the rest of my career,” Braugher said in an interview with the Associated Press in 2019.

His role on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” earned him four Emmy nominations for best supporting actor in a comedy series (2014, 2015, 2016 and 2020). Throughout his career, he received 11 award nominations.
