Seven years ago, we witness the fictional love between Roonie Miller and Will Blakelee, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s characters in the movie The Las Song, become a rea-life romance. Thus, Disney’s golden girl and the handsome Australian surfer were crowned the it couple.

Just a year later, the Hanna Montana era came to an end, and so did the sweet innocent Miley we all knew and loved. In the midst of a whirlwind of daring outfits, extravagant hairstyles, obscene signs, an engagement ring, and an ever-present Liam, the young singer and actress became the wildest and most irreverent version of herself.

The scandals and excesses of the Bangerz Miley were stronger than her epic romance with Hemsworth. And so, after three years of a highly mediatic on-again off-again love, Miam finally came to an end.

But in an unexpected twist of events taken straight out from the script of a romantic drama, such as that which brought together this pair in the first place, Miley and Liam were reborn from the ashes, stronger and more in love than ever. Her, embarking on a path of redemption and returning to her roots, and him, enjoying the life they’ve built together ever since, and that Miley narrates in Malibu and the rest of her most recent musical production, Younger Now.

As part of this self-regeneration process and reconquest of a scandalized audience, Cyrus is not afraid to look back and reflect on her very controversial past. Particularly when it comes to her romance with Liam.

“I had to [break up with Liam]. I don’t like when relationships are two halves trying to make a whole,” Miley confessed in an interview, referring to the codependent state of their relationship before the breakup.

“I think people that break up and get back together, that’s awesome. You get time to be yourself. You get time to grow up. I think if you’re growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being.”

“I didn’t know if that was the end of it or know if we’d be back together again, but knew that wherever I was going, I was on the right path.”

Today, twerking, foam fingers, and wreaking balls have replaced by the beach, country music, and colorful balloons. And of course, a fresh start for Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth.
