Interview by Claudia Ciuffo
Ian Somerhalder showed a mix of humor and emotion as he spoke about upcoming season 7 of ‘The Vampire Diaries’, in which he acknowledged the series will be more about relationships than mythology especially after Nina Dobrev’s exit.
For the fans that might be worried that ‘The Vampire Diaries’ won’t be as good now that Dobrev has left the show, Somerhalder assured JETSS in an exclusive interview that season 7 is going back to the basics; less mythology and more emotion...”If you go back and look at seasons 1, 2 and 3 of the show, you really look at some bad ass storytelling, some stuff that was deep, beautiful yet simple. Now we have to blow up three cars and kill 20 people to get that same effect. It’s like drug addicts; they have to do more and more and more to get the same buzz, and it’s a shame. We want to go back to that simple type of storytelling from season 1 and season 2, where it’s sexy, dark, and funny.”
If you are one of many that are still hoping for Damon and Bonnie to hook up, Somerhalder says, “To be honest with you last season were my favorites scenes for Bonnie (Kat Graham) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Now can you imagine Bonnie is the reason why his girlfriend is in the casket for seven years. So, they look at each other, they will resent each other, they love each other and are stuck together. This relationship looks to me like a beautiful recipe for disaster.”
The Vampire Diaries season 7 premieres on October 8th on The CW network.
