Actress Amber Heard has finally filed a police report accusing estranged husband Johnny Depp of domestic abuse.
We reported earlier that despite filing for divorce and requesting a restraining order against the actor, Heard never reported the claimed abuse to police.
Now Heard’s attorneys claim she refrained from reporting the alleged abuse when police visited the couple’s property on 21 May in an attempt to protect her privacy and Depp’s career, RadarOnline reports.
“Johnny’s team has forced Amber to give a statement to the LAPD to set the record straight as to the true facts,” the statement reads. “She cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious false and malicious allegations that have infected the media.”
Last Monday, the 30-year-old actress filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court before returning on Friday to request the restraining order.
Heard appeared in court with a bruise on her face she claimed Depp caused when he threw an iPhone at her during a heated argument at their home on 21 May.
We also reported earlier that police determined no crime was committed when they visited the property shortly after the alleged incident.
Heard’s attorneys remain adamant abuse took place and that it was not the first time.
“Amber has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny,” they said. “Amber can no longer endure the relentless attacks and outright lies launched against her character in the court of public opinion since the tragic events of May 21.”
It seems we have to get strapped in for a long, bumpy ride.
