The Baywatch franchise has come full circle.
Hunky male star David Hasselhoff once dominated the TV version of the title, portraying a hot-shot symbol of masculinity similar to his earlier role in Knight Rider. But “The Hoff” has recently gone from stereotypical muscle-man hero to kitschy geek-culture icon after appearing in self-parodying videos such as “True Survivor,” theme song of the viral 80s send-up Kung Fury.
Meanwhile, 31 year-old hottie Alexandra Daddario is set to star in the upcoming Baywatch movie release, a feature-length reboot starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. But as People has learned in a recent interview, Daddario was once firmly in the geek category herself – as a lonely nerd in school.
“(The movie role) feels really surreal — as a teenager I could never really get guys and I was pretty nerdy,” the shapely New Yorker confessed.
Despite landing a soap-opera TV role at the young age of 16, Alexandra says she had “a bad ice cream habit” and struggled with her body throughout her teen years. The starlet credits “resistance training” and posture-improvement as the keys to building her now-prized figure.
“Now I feel like I’m getting my revenge by being a Baywatch babe,” she offered in the interview. “(My schoolmates) could have had this and now look at me.”
Baywatch is set for release in theaters on May 25th.
