Newt Scamander and his gang are getting ready for their next fantastic adventure.
On Monday, Warner Bros. released major plot details for the very anticipated sequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. According to their statement, the second film “moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances”.
The studio also offered details of the story that will see young Albus Dombuldore (Jude Law) team up with his former student Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to battle Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).
Rather than taking place in New York in the 1920’s, the film will reportedly open in 1927, and will take place primarily in Paris, though it would appear some of Newt’s American friends will once again be along for the ride. American wizards Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), and obliviated no-maj—a.k.a. muggle— and favorite baker, Jacob (Dan Fogler) are all returning.
Also appearing will be Ezra Miller, who played the disturbed and powerful Credence, and Zoe Kravitz as Leta Lestrange, who was briefly glimpsed in a moving photo as a woman for Newt’s past
The new major cast members are “Claudia Kim (The Dark Tower, Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Marco Polo) as a young woman first encountered as a featured attraction at a wizarding circus. William Nadylam will play a wizard named Yusuf Kama; Ingvar Sigurdsson (Baltasar Kormakur’s The Oath) joins as bounty hunter Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Missing) is Skender, who runs the wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie is Abernathy, the boss of MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA) […] and Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, a war hero and Auror, who is also Newt’s older brother.”
Last year’s release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opened to huge success, minting an estimated profit close to $165 million, proving it will keep the Harry Potter money-making alive on screen.
The new film yet untitled, the second of five planned movies, is set for release on November 16, 2018.
