Over the years, Prince Philip has had 22,191 solo engagements, 229 visits to Commonwealth countries, 408 visits to other nations, and given 5,493 speeches. But Wednesday’s was his last.
Yesterday, Prince Philip made his final solo appearance, ending a royal career marked by his sense of humor and off-color occasional gaffes, often landing him in the center of controversy. For over 65 years, the once Prince of Greece has been the unwavering presence alongside Britain’s longest-serving monarch, the consummate consort and royal representative.
