Kim and Kanye may be experts in choosing the weirdest names for their offspring—as evidence, their two oldest children. But their creative instincts were a little off when naming their third child, because, as revealed by Kardashian herself, Chicago wasn’t exactly their first choice for their baby daughter.
West was initially set on naming the little girl “Donda,” after his 53-year-old beloved mother who died in November 2007 one day after undergoing a cosmetic surgery. But Kardashian admitted the name would place too many expectations on the baby.
“He really wanted his mother’s name, and I love that name too… I just wasn’t sure,” Kardashian told Ellen DeGeneres on Monday. “Its so much to live up to.”
Other names in the running were “Jo,” after Kris Jenner’s mother and Kim’s grandmother Mary Jo, and “Grace”, as the couple wanted to stick to the one syllable rule. “It kind of messes with me, I’m not going to lie. I really liked the one syllable thing,” she added.
And though Kim isn’t necessarily sure how they “ended up” with their baby’s name, the couple eventually settled on Chicago, daddy’s hometown. “That is a place that made him, and a place that he remembers his family from,” said Kim of Chi’s moniker. “I just felt Chicago was cool and different.”
Yes, Kim. Chicago is a sort-of-normal yet cool name. But we still think God gave you a third time to make wrong things right by naming your baby “Wild.” Once again, you missed a great opportunity.
