On February 25, 2020, the Welsh singer—better known for her 2008 hit single Mercy—took to Instagram to explain the devastating reason behind her mysterious departure right at the height of her fame.
“You can only imagine the amount of time I thought abut writing this,” the 35-year-old performer wrote. “Not entirely sure why now is the right time, and what it is that feels exciting and liberating for me to talk. I cannot explain.” Then came her shocking revelation, in which is bravely disclosed having been “raped and drugged and held captive over some days.”
Duffy went on to admit that, though the recovery “took time,” she’s now “OK and safe now” and even said the sun “does now shine” after her heart slowly “unbroke.”
